Nitroglobus gallery

secondlife

Currently, there are two exhibitions being held at Nitroglobus:

“IPSEITIES” by MarVayu, and “MUTE” by MAGHDA.

I’ve visited the gallery several times, but honestly, it’s not easy to put my thoughts into words — especially in English.
So first, I’ll try writing about what I felt from MarVayu’s work.

The theme of her work is reflected in its title: IPSEITIES.
To be honest, as a Japanese person, I find it difficult to grasp the exact difference between “Ipseities” and “Identity” in English.
However, when I look at her works, I strongly sense themes such as:
multiple selves, masks, projection, and unstable existence.

For example, even the tip jar has two faces — front and back.
In every piece, I can feel the “fluctuation” of the self.
The mirror-like floor amplifies this impression even more.

As for the relationship between Second Life (SL) and Real Life (RL),
I once wrote a short essay about it.

SL is not just a game.
I called it “the Penultimate life.”

Why do some people leave SL?
I wrote that it’s because they’ve lost their raison d’être within SL.

But there are also many who never leave.
They have lived both RL and SL lives for over twenty years.

Why is that possible?

I feel that the answer might be found in exhibitions like this one.

Thank you MarVayu, for a wonderful exhibition.
